Down in the Darkness by super-tuler Down in the Darkness by super-tuler
Again with the experimenting. :eyes: I'm having a lot of fun colouring and drawing like this, yes.

For those who follow my art blog, you will notice a pallet change. This is because the basement needed to be a cooler colour. It was once orange and yellow.

I feel this needs Scooby Doo music for some reason.

Art and Tairu *super-tuler

yes, this does need scooby doo music... compared to your 'sleeping panda' one i just saw a moment ago, i like the contrast between the two pieces in general. the cool colors in the background really adds to the creepy effect ya got going there.. great job on experimentation lol

Apparently the ceiling of your basement is interesting. I can't say the same about my basement, also it's filled with centipedes, not spiders. I enjoy spiders, not centipedes.

Some part of me agrees with you on this needing Scooby-Doo music. Weird. Anyhow, Tairu looks very good in this picture - he does realize he's about to step on that spider, right?

I like this style, with using just a few outlines to create the background and areas of the foreground instead of worrying about coloring the whole thing in. The method also is interesting in creating some interesting lighting effects as well, which is crucial for a picture like this since it revolves around the entire concept of lighting up darker areas. Not sure if this new approach to drawing Tairu is permanent or not, but it sure does put a different visually refreshing spin on your character.

Keep it up Tuler dude.

Thanks a lot, I was doing some reading from a great writer and comic artist, Scott McCloud. He inspired me a lot with his books Understanding Comics and Making Comics. Really gave my mind a spin in a different direction — can't say for sure what direction I'm going in but it's different XD

Something about giving characters shapes, and another chapter on effective backgrounds. I also got two art books, one was Kung Fu Panda 2, and the other Disney's Tangled. Both have a high focus on colour and mood which also inspired me to try out very moody colours and new styles. It's really inspirational! That's pretty much what inspired me thus far, really glad you like it. I hope to experiment more with it, definitely enjoying myself this time around 8]

I'd recommend those books if your into that stuff, really cheap on Amazon.

...Never knew "McCloud" was a real last name. o.0 Guess Fox McCloud and James McCloud aren't the only ones, haha.

Hm, that sounds pretty cool indeed. Thinking of pursuing this style more often? Or is it gonna remain a style variant like how you switch things up every once in awhile? Either way, it does impress me with how much you can do with just a handful of lines, creating such types of backdrops. The Disney influence is definitely there--in fact I've seen it done in a lot of old classics including 101 Dalmations and Sleeping Beauty. Nice bit of artsy, almost jazzy flair. Good for you for continuing to experiment, explore, and expand. :)

Any time dude.

I had a girl in my highschool who went by somebody McCloud, blew my mind lol. I am thinking of it yep, I made a brush to kind of lessen the work load. It's "trying" to be messy if that makes sense.

Ah yes, 101 Dalmatians is like one of the best ones for it's age. :33

That certainly would blow my mind too. @__@; Just like it's interesting any time you meet a girl named Zelda in reality too, haha.

That works, and makes sense I suppose. Hey, as long as it's stylistically appealing and it makes you comfortable, then that's all that matters. Bob Ross always hinted that he was looking for shortcuts to make painting easier for both himself and for others, and his style is pretty recognizable and standout so that's a good approach to consider for yourself.

I love that one--the best example of classic jazz in Disney, if you ask me.
