.jpg for photos, usually, because it keeps EXIF data where .png removes it.

Otherwise, .png. The quality is just better, and it doesn't pixelate as much. And the transparency is a bonus.

.jpg ruins the pic quality
found that out the hard way...

I was playing around with pixel art for awhile, and saved it as a .jpg

then I read some tut here on dA (that later got a dd) about how .jpg screws the quality, and how you should always use .png...

it saved my LIFE!!

Both! Jpg. is, I dunno, easy to handle? Works everywhere. Png. is better quality and doesn't destroy everything. I always save my pics in double formats... ^^
