Both! But mostly floppy. <3 My first dog had floppy ears and my puppyboy, Rufus, has floppy ears that can almost completely stand up! So weird and cute.
My favorite breed has that unintentionally introduced and completely unnatural genetic trait of floppy ears. As the Bouviers were developed for carting & dairy cattle herding, the ears of the puppies were cropped and their tails were docked. To the readers, please understand that this practice was NOT initiated for something as trivial as "looks", but for the dog's own future safety. Most urbanites have no dang idea just how dangerous a creature a cud chewer or a dirt noser can be when they're upset or angry. If you've EVER had the misfortune to witness the painful, agonizing death of a dog who's been tail grabbed & stomped by an angry cow, you'd understand. As those herding jobs were gradually removed from the lives of the majority of the dogs today, the practice of those external modifications have now become considered an "unnecessary cruelty" and have been banned in most countries. I've had 4 of the breed and as a matter of my personal preference, I like the C&D look. None of my dogs have ever suffered any complications (physical or mental - either long or short term) from those procedures.

Also give the canine the image of staying alert.
