Jesus is the reason for the season, silly! But friends and family and giving to each other all come along with that. Cause love is what He's all about. Love strong enough that He was born for us on Christmas day, to die for us on Good Friday, to rise for us on Easter Sunday! So when it all comes down to it Christmas is about love and that's beautiful.
It sure doesn't mean much to some. I turned the local channel for the news at noon... just in time to hear the Anchorwoman announce with a rather straight face that "the season for giving is now over". (Making a statement like that, it's obvious the whole concept of what Christmas is about has escaped her.)
When the topic of what to do with "unresquested or odd gifts" came up, this same woman then went on to comment in an on-camera conversation with fellow reporters about how she's "honest" to those giving her gifts - if she doesn't like it or need the gift, she pulls no punches and tells them flat out. The responses of her co-workers, like the meteorologist showed this was likely a very unpopular action. From her own admission, no one was exempt - even members of her own family! She was practically bragging of the fact that due to this practice, her own mother doesn't buy anything for her anymore.
Tis the season to be happy for people that get to celebrate whatever holiday, but also to be the awkward little muslim girl that sits in class while everyone around talks about christmas.
